“Digital Bangladesh” means digitalizing Bangladesh based on Information and Communication Technology by ensuring proper access to the internet where all information regarding all sectors of Bangladesh will be available. Digitalization is the process of ensuring e-governance and e-commerce through technologies in every sphere of life. Nowadays, Digital Bangladesh is the most spoken term in Bangladesh. Making a digital Bangladesh was an election manifesto of Awami League in 2008, one of the leading political parties in Bangladesh. The leader of Awami League and present Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, declared to develop Bangladesh into a digital country by 2021. The title of the concept is “Vision 2021”. Bangladesh got her independence in 1971, but still, she is burdened with so many problems like poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, corruption, natural calamities and many more. Digital Bangladesh aims to overcome all these problems with the digitalizing process. The benefits of digitalizing are so many. Digitalization makes our daily activities, entertainment and lifestyle, communication and business transaction easy and comfortable. Educational sectors are greatly benefited by digitalization. All types of transactions like tax payment, salary payment and banking transaction are possible online by digitalization. Telemedicine which is a blessing of digitalization can bring patients at remote closer to specialist doctors working in major cities. Moreover, ICT can provide our farmers with the latest agricultural commodity price information and E-Governance can narrow down the gap between the citizens and the government. Thus digital Bangladesh can eliminate poverty, hunger, disease and corruption through technological progress. So, to make Bangladesh a digital country, government’s commitment and people’s co-operation both are important.
