Folk Music of Bangladesh for Class 12 & Class 10

Folk music is one type of music that belongs to a community or a religion, or team. It is not influenced by any sophisticated music rules or by any standard music styles. Both religious and secular songs are included in folk music. Folk songs can be sung individually or in a chorus. Folk music is originated in the third century BC. In Bangladesh, folk music has a great variety. Poets who composed folk music are basically from the rural area and the theme of the songs are related to the desires, dreams, and lifestyle of rural people. Folk songs of Bangladesh are influenced by the different regions and formed in different types. Some basic types of folk songs in Bangladesh are Lalongiti, Jari, Sari, Palagan, Palligiti, Baul, Murshidi, Bhatiali, Gambhira, Bhawaiya, and so on. These songs are performed with some traditional musical instruments, such as Ektara, Dotara, Dhol, Sitar, Bashi, Tabla, Madol, Sarinda, etc. Talented singers and composers of folk songs have made folk music more famous to the people of Bangladesh. Lalon Shah, Shah Abdul Karim, Hasan Raja, Fakir Alamgir, Abbas Uddin, Kuddus Boyati, Radha Roman, etc singers, and composers are famous for making the history of Bangladeshi folk music popular. Folk music is important for the general people of our country because this music form is close to our tradition and history. Folk songs are famous among the village people, farmers, fishermen, day labourers, and rickshaw pullers. Often these songs are called “Matir Gaan”. Nowadays, foreign music forms are taking place over the folk songs and influencing young people. We should not neglect our own ancient culture and preserve these songs by practicing. The government should also come forward to retain and preserve these cultures and traditions. As the folk music of Bangladesh is related to our history and culture, we should all work together to preserve this.
